Special Issue in Talanta

Talanta Virtual Special Issue : Automation and miniaturization of analytical methods

Talanta (EI) is a peer-reviewed international scientific journal that provides a forum for the publication of original research papers, short communications, and critical reviews in all branches of pure and applied analytical chemistry

Original research papers on fundamental studies, and on novel sensor and instrumentation developments, are encouraged in Talanta. Novel or improved applications in areas such as clinical and biological chemistry, environmental analysis, geochemistry, materials science and engineering, and analytical platforms for omics development are welcome.

Participants to the 22nd international Conference on Flow Injection Analysis and related techniques will be invited to submit manuscripts based on their conference presentations for possible publication in this highly ranked scientific journal (IF2022 Journal Citation Reports= 6.1).

Editors

Editor-in-Chief (Talanta): Jean-Michel Kauffmann, ULB, Brussels, Belgium

Editor-in-Chief (Talanta Open): Ian McKelvie, School of Chemistry, University of Melbourne, Parkville, Australia.

Guest Editors : Jean-Luc Boudenne, Bruno Coulomb, Fabien Robert-Peillard, Aix-Marseille University, Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry, Marseille, France.

Special issue theme

Flow analytical methods represent one of the most studied and practiced areas of analytical chemistry. Indeed, automation of chemical methods enables the analysis of a large variety of environmental, food, pharmaceutical and chemical industrial samples. Another current tendency is the miniaturization of analytical systems, which enables reduction of sample and reagent consumption, as well as waste generation. In this regard, flow methods have been recognized as a universal tool for the automation and miniaturization of different analytical procedures.

The International Conference on Flow Injection Analysis and related techniques (ICFIA) brings together an international array of scientists, engineers, equipment manufacturers, and other professionals to discuss the latest findings and developments on the fundamental sciences related to the flow-based analysis and the innovative applications in many analytical fields.

The 22nd edition of this conference (Marseille, France, 28th May - 2nd June) perpetuates this tradition by being a privileged forum to discuss novel ideas and instrumental advances in flow analysis, flow chemistry and biochemistry, and related subjects and techniques :

  • • Advanced technologies for trace analysis
  • • New flow-based technologies
  • • Automated and new detection systems
  • • Speciation
  • • Applications to environmental (water, air, soil), clinical analysis, quality and process control, and food safety

Hence, the aim of this Special Issue of Talanta is to provide such platform, which covers novel research presented at the 22nd ICFIA.

Submission instructions

The selection of the manuscripts for the special issue will be based on the originality, scientific merit, and experimental design of the papers submitted.
Poorly written manuscripts will be returned to the authors with a request to improve the quality of the paper prior to peer review.

Accepted articles will be up-to-date, original papers that will present developments in any scientific field pertinent to automation and/or miniaturization of analytical methods. Informative abstracts will be required and articles will have to be fully referenced. Criteria for publication will be weighted toward scientific quality and environmental significance.

Acceptance for publication in the journal will subject to single peer review and the journal will still reserve the right to refuse the publication of any paper that will not meet the journal's standards of acceptability.

Submissions will have an 8,000-word limit for the main text (excluding references and Appendices), but will not be constrained by a page limit. For more information about submission format, see: https://www.elsevier.com/journals/talanta/

All manuscripts will have to be submitted electronically through the Elsevier Editorial System (EES) which will be accessed at https://ees.elsevier.com/tal/

Particular attention will be devoted by authors when submitting manuscripts by dentifying clearly their association with the Special Issue, via their submission letter and by selecting the right article type in EES (VSI : ICFIA2023). To prevent any possibility of publishing special issue papers into regular volume, it is mandatory that authors indicate the special issue article type along the paper title during the submission process. In your cover letter please mention that your manuscript is intended for the 22nd ICFIA Special Issue.

Submission schedule

Submission portal opening : 10th June, 2023

Deadline for submission : 30th October, 2023

Papers will be pusblished as soon as accepted in the VSI.
